The only reason it is in second place for me is because of its price, off-roading and overlanding is expensive enough, so if you are happy using then perfect, if not then give OsmAnd a try! Lastly it has an option to FAVOUR (rather than avoid) unpaved roads (remember when you have this selected!). OsmAnd can display different overlays like touring/navigation GPX tracks and additional maps with customizable transparency.įor car navigation, vehicle parameters and specifications can be entered which is great for RVs and expedition trucks and optional speed and altitude display. The contour lines and hill shading make exploring in the mountains much more intuitive. It has some great features that are specifically useful for offroading although most of these are not available in the free version. All the main functionality works both online and offline (no internet needed). All map data can be stored on your device's memory card for offline use.

Anyone is welcome to correct me ) The best alternative to that is a guy here in Sweden who's taken the time to convert the Swedish topo maps for LMP which you can download free here: From time to time he also updates these maps. ( I might be doing something wrong within the app, so I could be wrong with that comment. It would literally take 2 weeks to download the complete topo map for either Norway or Sweden. Plus it seems to remove the files after 30 days of no use. LMP does offer topo maps for Scandinavia BUT there are daily restrictions for downloading taking huge amounts of internal space. I do find that planning trips and saving gpx files is easier in Locus Maps Pro (LMP).
It is relatively cheap to be honest, 100:- does go a long way for map updates. Their maps are updated twice a year but your using a points system that you buy.
If your looking for another alternative to Topo GPS then I can suggest Locus Maps Pro. Gia appears to only use opensource maps which are not up to date for here anyways. I personally think that we've got a winner with Topo GPS with excellent maps for Scandinavia. Also Topo GPS takes only 38:- per country map without any subscriptions.
Topo GPS on the other hand does show all of the roads and trails there. It was incomplete, showed some of the trails but did not show all of them nor did it show all of the roads. So just checking their homepage/web map I did get the local adventure park. I was always led to believe that Gia GPS was geared to the North American market.
